While this information can be incredibly helpful, its use is governed by important laws—particularly the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)—which restrict certain types of activity.
Below are examples of acceptable and prohibited uses of our platform. Misusing this data can violate federal law and our Terms & Conditions, potentially resulting in legal action or account termination. We take compliance seriously to protect both users and data subjects.
Can: Find Out Who’s Calling You
Tired of unknown numbers spamming your phone? Run a reverse phone lookup to see who’s behind the call.
Can’t: Use for Tenant Screening
Curious Check may not be used to screen individuals for leasing residential or commercial property. You must use an FCRA-compliant Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA) for this purpose.
Can: Research an Online Date
Meeting someone new on a dating app? Use Curious Check to learn more about them before agreeing to meet in person.
Can’t: Perform Employment Background Checks
You may not use our service to evaluate someone for employment, promotion, or retention. Employment screening must go through an FCRA-compliant CRA.
Can: Verify Online Sellers
Buying from someone on an auction or marketplace site? Check if their identity aligns with their claims.
Can’t: Check Educational Backgrounds
Curious Check cannot be used to verify someone’s academic qualifications, degrees, or eligibility for scholarships or educational programs.
Can: Reconnect with Friends and Family
Use our tools to rediscover old friends, classmates, or extended relatives you’ve lost contact with over the years.
Can’t: Spy, Stalk, or Contact People Without Consent
Respect privacy. Do not use Curious Check to contact, follow, or monitor someone who does not wish to be reached.
Can: Evaluate Potential Roommates
Thinking of sharing your space? Look up your future roommate to help ensure a safe and informed decision.
Can’t: Use for Credit, Insurance, or Lending Decisions
Our data cannot be used to assess creditworthiness, insurance rates, mortgage eligibility, or financial risk. Doing so may be a violation of federal law.
Can: Explore Your New Neighborhood
Just moved in or noticed new neighbors? Curious Check can help you learn more about those around you.
Can’t: Assess Pet or Child Adoption Candidates
It is prohibited to use Curious Check to determine someone’s fitness to adopt a child, pet, or service animal, or to assume a custodial or caretaking role.
Do: Look Yourself Up
It’s smart to check your own public record data. Stay informed about how you appear in public databases.
Don’t: Use Data for Non-Profit, Grant, or Charity Screening
You may not use Curious Check to assess someone’s eligibility or qualifications for charitable aid, grants, or nonprofit opportunities.
Don’t: Steal Someone’s Identity
Using our data to impersonate someone else is illegal and strictly forbidden.
Don’t: Use for Customer Account Monitoring
Business owners may not use Curious Check to review, manage, or assess personal customer account activity or behaviors.
Do: Update Address Records
Need to send a card or reconnect by mail? Use Curious Check to find someone’s current address quickly and accurately.
